Ford Superduty 6.0L Powerstroke Maintenance Intervals

The first step in understanding how to maintain your Ford F-250 or F-350 with the 6.0L Powerstroke engine is knowing how frequently your truck needs service. Ford has two separate recommended sets of maintenance intervals. They are based upon how the truck in question is used.

For the average driver, who uses the truck as a primary vehicle and tows infrequently, the normal operating conditions maintenance intervals are intended to be followed. For commercial/fleet vehicles, or trucks that tow frequently, the severe operating conditions maintenance intervals are recommended.

Since these trucks being on the road for decades now, we’ve actually come up with our own set of maintenance intervals. These trucks are incredibly hard on engine oil and coolant. Even trucks that are pampered should still be maintained more frequently. We’ll include our recommended 6.0L Powerstroke Service intervals as well.

Normal Operating Conditions

These are the recommended Ford maintenance intervals for vehicles falling under the normal operating conditions category. These trucks include daily drivers, commuters, and light towing.

2003-2007 Ford F-250/F-350 Superduty 6.0L Powerstroke Guide

2003-2007 Ford F-250 and F-350 Superduty trucks contain one of the most well-known diesel engines in modern day diesel trucks, the 6.0L Powerstroke V8 engine. Upon being released, consumers had high hopes for this latest iteration of the Superduty. This was especially true considering this engine was replacing the legendary 7.3L Powerstroke V8 Diesel engine which had set the bar extremely high for Ford trucks.

Despite the reliability of its predecessor, the 6.0L Powerstroke became well-known for entirely different reasons. In this post, our 2003-2007 Ford F-250/F-350 Superduty 6.0L Powerstroke Guide, we’re going to dive in deep about the good, the bad, and the ugly of these trucks.

We’ll cover Ford Superduty 6.0L Powerstroke performance, specs, history, and tow ratings. We’ll also list common Ford Superduty 6.0L Powerstroke problems, and what can be done to fix them. Let’s get started.

Ford F-250 Superduty with the 6.0L Powerstroke V8 Diesel Engine

6.0L Powerstroke V-8 Diesel Engine

The 6.0L Powerstroke engine was built by International Navistar, similar to the 7.3L Powerstroke. Planning and design for this new engine began in the late 90s as Ford was aware of upcoming and stringent emissions guidelines that were being implemented. In addition to stricter emissions, the 7.3L Powerstroke was becoming underwhelming from a performance aspect. Both the 5.9L Cummins and the LB7 Duramax engines were catching up, or even surpassing the 7.3L Powerstroke in capabilities.

In 2003, Ford introduced the 6.0L Powerstroke engine in Ford F-250 and F-350 Superduty trucks. It was in production until the 2007 model year, after which it was replaced by the 6.4L Powerstroke V8 Diesel Engine.

Engine Design

The 6.0L Powerstroke is a direct-injection, 32-Valve, 8-cylinder Diesel engine that boasts significantly improved power, fuel economy, and NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) over the previous 7.3L Powerstroke V8 Diesel engine. It also contains a lower displacement, and is more compact than the engine it replaced. This engine has an Overhead valve design, with a single, block-mounted camshaft, featuring hydraulic valve-lash adjustment. This results in lesser friction resulting in greater valvetrain durability, improved longevity, quieter operation, and better performance.

Utilizing a cast-iron cylinder block for superior strength, the 6.0L Powerstroke features a sturdy foundation. To help accomplish its compact design, the geartrain for the crankshaft, camshaft and the HPOP (high-pressure oil pump) were moved to the engine’s rear. Further bottom-end strength was accomplished by the use of a crankcase bed plate.

Similar to the 7.3L Powerstroke, powdered-metal connecting rods are used, with great success. These connecting rods have been found to be capable of supporting massive performance improvements. Cast Aluminum Pistons are also used.

6.0L Powerstroke engines contains cast iron cylinder heads, which are significantly higher flow than the outgoing 7.3L Powerstroke. Four valves are used per cylinder, for a total of 32 valves. Aluminum rocker boxes mount to the top of each cylinder head. The cylinder heads themselves are mounted to the block with four 14mm TTY head bolts used per cylinder. These Torque-to-yield bolts are small compared to those used in other diesel applications, and also fewer in number. They’re known to stretch when the engine is put under higher loads due to heavy towing or engine mods like 6.0L Powerstroke Tuning. Once they’ve stretched, they will no longer apply the same clamping force, ultimately resulting in a blown head gasket.

Engine Highlights

The 6.0L Powerstroke V8 Diesel Engine brought some innovations never before seen on a Ford Diesel truck. These engines use EGR, or exhaust gas recirculation, as a means of significantly reducing emissions output and meeting federally mandated emissions requirements. Electronic Variable Response Turbocharging is introduced through the use of a variable geometry turbocharger. An updated fuel design also was introduced, helping to reduce emissions output and increase performance capabilities.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)

Exhaust gas recirculation is the process in which cooled exhaust gases get re-circulated back into the combustion chamber. This lowers the burner temperature at which combustion occurs, ultimately leading to reduces NOx emissions.

While the EGR did help reduce emissions enough for Ford to meet emissions requirements, they essentially opened a can of worms. EGR failure is one of the most common 6.0l Powerstroke Problems. Exhaust gas recirculation is extremely hard on engine coolant and introduces excess carbon and soot into multiple components including the EGR valve, EGR Cooler, intake manifold, and more.

Picture above is the Sinister Diesel 2004-2007 Ford Superduty 6.0L Powerstroke EGR Cooler.

Variable Geometry Turbocharger & Electronic Variable Response Turbocharging

A revolutionary turbocharging system was introduced the 2003 Ford Superduty with the introduction of the 6.0L Powerstroke engine. A variable Geometry, Garrett GT3782VA turbocharger is used in conjunction with an air-to-air intercooler. This turbocharger optimizes boost and performance over a wide range of driving scenarios.

This variable geometry turbocharger, also called Electronic Variable Response Turbocharging, or EVRT, uses a set of electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated vanes. These vanes automatically adjust, changing airflow within the turbo. This design results in optimum performance in the entire operating range. At lower speeds, it functions as a smaller turbocharger, resulting in quicker spooling and faster response. At higher operating ranges, it functions as a larger turbo for maximum power output.

While extremely innovative, the VGT actually is a common 6.0L Powerstroke problem as well. The VGT can experience buildup that causes the vanes to get stuck. A thorough cleaning or total replacement can fix the problem. There are plenty of 6.0L Powerstroke aftermarket turbocharger upgrades available on the aftermarket.

2005.5-2007 Garrett GT3782 VA Stock Replacement Turbocharger

The stock 6.0L Powerstroke was incredibly innovating and featured electronic variable response turbocharging. If your OEM turbocharger is in rough shape, you can replace it with an OEM 2005.5-2007 Garrett GT3782 Stock Replacement Turbocharger.

Garrett Powermax Turbocharge for 04.5-07 6.0L Powerstroke

For those looking to upgrade their turbocharger, the 2004.5-2007 Ford Superduty 6.0L Powerstroke Garrett Powermax Turbocharger is a common upgraded turbocharger kit capable of supporting up to 175 horsepower over stock.

Hydraulic Rail Fuel Injection

Ford’s Superduty with the 6.0L Powerstroke V8 Diesel engine gained an updated fuel injection system. In this system, commonly referred to an a HEUI system, high-pressure engine oil helps compress diesel fuel. The Fuel injectors are controlled by a high-pressure hydraulic rail system that’s capable of delivering injection pressures of up to 26,000 psi. The result is a more powerful, efficient, and cleaner combustion.

Key Components of the Hydraulic Rail Fuel Injection System include:

  • Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
  • Injector Driver Module (IDM)
  • High-pressure Oil Pump (HPOP)
  • Injection Pressure Regulator (IPR)
  • Siemens Injectors

This system, while it did help significantly boost the 6.0L Powerstroke’s performance and helped reduce emissions, is actually a common failure point of these engines too.

Ford Superduty 6.0L Powerstroke Performance

There was a lot to be excited about with the introduction of the 6.0L Powerstroke V8 Diesel to the Ford F-250 and F-350 Superduty. For starters, the 6.0L Powerstroke engine gave the Ford Superduty a big increase in performance. 2003 Ford Superduty trucks with the 6.0L Powerstroke engine produce 325 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft of torque. When compared to the max figures of 275 horsepower and 525 lb.-ft of torque produced by the 7.3L Powerstroke, these were much needed performance gains. The 5.9L Cummins and the 6.6L LB7 Duramax were already posting figures that were vastly superior to those of the 7.3L Powerstroke as well, solidifying the need for an updated engine to stay competitive.

In addition to benefitting from the addition of a new, higher performance diesel engine, a new 5-speed TorqShift automatic transmission was also introduced. After being around for an extended period of time, this 5-speed automatic has proven itself to be quite reliable and capable of withstanding moderate performance upgrades.

These additions made the trucks drive smoother, made them more capable, and added to the max towing capacities of these trucks. It also aided these trucks in meeting federally mandated emission standards. Overall, the 6.0L Powerstroke allowed Ford’s Superduty to better compete with rivals thanks to the large jump in performance.

Most Common 6.0L Powerstroke Problems

6.0L Powerstroke Head Stud Upgrade Kit from ARP

Head Gasket Failures Caused by TTY Head Bolts

6.0L Powerstroke engines come from the factory with only four, 14mm Torque-to-Yield (TTY) head bolts per cylinder. Putting these trucks under high load, or increasing cylinder head pressures due to performance modifications can quickly cause the factory TTY bolts to stretch. This significantly reduces their clamping pressure, resulting in a blown head-gasket. By upgrading to ARP Head Studs, you can remove these underperforming TTY head bolts and save yourself from the headache of a blown head gasket.

Oil Cooler

One of the most common 6.0L Powerstroke problems is a failed oil cooler. When this Powerstroke’s oil cooler fails, it causes oil temperatures to jump drastically. This occurs due to build up in the coolant passageways that accumulates overtime. Once this occurs, it’s time for a new Engine Oil Cooler. Ford’s OEM Replacement Oil Cooler is an option, or you can opt for an aftermarket solution like the PPE Heavy Duty Oil Cooler upgrade kit.

6.0L Powerstroke Oil Cooler Upgrade from PPE

EGR problems

Exhaust Gas Recirculation was first introduced to Ford diesels with the 6.0L Powerstroke. As with anything new, especially emissions devices in automobiles, there were plenty of kinks that needed to be worked out. If your EGR goes out, consider buying a significantly better quality Bulletproof Diesel EGR Cooler. Carefully select the one you need your truck because there are different models between model years.

While I only included three problems that are frequently encountered with this engine in this post, there are actually many more problems that can occur. Check out our comprehensive guide with the most common 6.0L Powerstroke problems and how to fix them in our Most Common Ford Superduty 6.0L Powerstroke Problems post.

2003-2007 Ford Superduty 6.0L Powerstroke Maintenance

One of the best ways to make your 6.0L Powerstroke more reliable is by properly maintaining your truck. Due to the EGR process, your system’s coolant and engine oil are under significantly more strain, especially if your truck is used for heavy towing, or if it’s modified with aftermarket products like tuners. Even stock trucks that operate under minimally harsh conditions experience problems at some point. That’s why it’s absolutely critical you perform 6.0L Powerstroke maintenance frequently, and that you use the best fluids, oil, and filters possible.

In this section, we’ll provide a brief overview of how to maintain your 6.0L Powerstroke-equipped Ford Superduty truck.

6.0L Powerstroke Service Intervals

One of the most important things to keep in mind when it comes to 6.0L Powerstroke maintenance is that just because of your truck’s engine design, we recommend following the severe maintenance schedule. It requires more frequent service, but your truck will thank you for it. It’ll help keep your truck on the road for a longer period of time.

2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate

2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate Highlights

The GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate is the perfect truck for those wanting the most comfortable, capable, and luxurious truck GMC has to offer. It contains more standard features and upgrades than any other GMC truck while also offering a truly unique interior and exterior. Here are some 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate Highlights based on our favorite characteristics of this new trim level.

GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD Denali Ultimate Highlights (interior)

Highlight #1: Unrivaled Interior Luxury

The new GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate interior stands head and shoulders above even the previous top trim, the Denali. It contains a distinct Alpine Umber interior with impressive stitching and trim featuring topographic maps of Mount Denali, the highest point in North America.

Highlight #2: An Exterior that Stands Out

The Denali Ultimate exterior distinguishes itself from other GMC trim thanks to a unique Vader Chrome exterior. The 2024 Model year Sierra HD also benefits from a number of exterior styling changes made across the trim spectrum.

2024 L5P Duramax Diesel V8 Engine

Highlight #3: Standard L5P Duramax Diesel Engine

Without a doubt, the best standard feature Denali Ultimate HD trucks come with is the 6.6L L5P Duramax Diesel engine. On all other trims, this is an expensive upgrade. It gives drivers of the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate the most capable powertrain they have to offer and significantly improves towing capabilities and overall longevity.

2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate Performance

The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate boasts significantly more impressive standard performance than all other trim levels. That is because the highly-coveted 6.6L L5P Duramax Diesel V8 Engine comes standard with this trim. At 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque, it easily outshines the 6.6L V8 Gasoline engine found as the standard engine offering on all other trims. It also does a significantly better job towing, and offers buyers that incredible longevity and durability we’ve become accustomed to with diesel trucks.

The L5P Duramax engine is mated to the newest version of the 10-speed Allison Transmission. This powertrain combination provides one of the smoothest and most comfortable rides possible. It simultaneously gives the truck smaller steps between gears, allowing the truck to experience a longer interval of peak power.

In addition to containing an upgraded powertrain combination, all Denali Ultimate heavy duty trucks come in 4WD and a crew cab configuration.

2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate Towing Specs

The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate is the ultimate towing machine right when it rolls off the lot. Thanks in large part to the 6.6L L5P Duramax mated to the Allison Transmission, these trucks can handle almost anything you can throw at them. The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate has a max conventional tow capacity of up to 20,000 lbs, and a max fifth-wheel tow capacity of 31,200 pounds. Max payload is 5,716 lbs. While these figures aren’t the highest numbers the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD can post, they are more than adequate for 99% of people seeking to tow with their trucks.

It’s important to recognize that these are max towing figures. Your actual max tow capacity or payload capacity could vary. It’s always best to check your owner’s manual or the manufacturer’s website for more detailed towing specs.

2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate Interior

While all 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD trucks benefit from a much-needed interior overhaul for this model year, the Denali Ultimate takes it several steps beyond that. Incredible attention to detail and significant amounts of time were put into developing a cabin that is worthy of the name Denali Ultimate. Here is everything you need to know about the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate Interior.

2024 GMC SIERRA 2500HD DENALI ULTIMATE INTERIOR

More Luxurious Cabin Designed with Premium Materials

The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate interior is the most impressive interior of any GMC truck to date. It stands head and shoulders above the interior of the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali, the next highest trim in GMC’s lineup.

The Denali Ultimate contains a unique Alpine Umber interior. Full-grain leather, often considered the highest quality leather, is used throughout the cabin in the seats, door panels, and console. Open-pore Paldao wood is used throughout the cabin on interior trim, and much of the trim is engraved with topographical map patterns of Mt. Denali’s Summit. The Denali Ultimate badge is placed on the front and rear seats in addition to the center console. The headliner, visors, and pillar trim are adorned with premium microsuede and leather is even found on pillar trim handles.

Both front passengers benefit benefit from 16-way power-adjustable and massaging seats. Driver’s gain the most intuitive center display and instrument display or gauge cluster ever offered on a GM pickup truck. A 12-speaker Bose Premium Series Sound system features Counterpoint surround technology, and etched stainless-steel speakers are used in the door panels.

A New Center Display Winner

GM trucks have contained the smallest and least intuitive center display and gauge display amongst heavy duty truck manufacturers. When you compared them to the RAM HD’s 12″ vertical display, or Ford’s 12″ horizontal display, the size and the lack of features was a serious shortcoming. While it doesn’t necessarily matter in a work truck, customers shopping for a luxury pickup truck care about these features. That all changes for this model year however, GMC introduced a significantly larger display paired with a larger, and more intuitive driver information center and gauge cluster.

In 2024, GMC trucks will now have an available 13.4″ infotainment touchscreen display, claiming the crown. Similar to Ford and GM’s displays, it will contain the popular split-screen capability, allowing using the control two separate aspects of the screen at the same time. This new center display is paired with a 12.3″ digital instrument cluster that is highly customizable and offers greater insight into vehicle operation. Denali Ultimate models also come standard with a 15″ head-up display where vehicle information is projected onto the windshield, allowing drivers to keep their eyes up and on the road.

Interior Highlights

It’s the Little Things

The Denali Ultimate interior features a multitude of intricate details that elevate these trucks’ luxury factor. Pictured here is custom engraving depicting topographical maps of Mt. Denali, the highest point in North America, and one of the world’s tallest mountain peaks.

Full-Grain Leather and Open-Paldao wood trim share the spotlight when it comes to the Denali Ultimate’s Interior. Denali Ultimate badges adorn seating and the console, reminding driver’s they are in the Ultimate Luxury Pickup truck.

2024 GMC Sierra GMC 3500HD Denali Ultimate Exterior

The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate Exterior immediately distinguishes it from lower trim level. In contrast to the bright chrome trim and grille found on the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali models, the Denali Ultimate features Vader chrome. It slightly resembles a Gunmetal Grey. Other key exterior characteristics include a signature Denali front grille, lower skid plate, and Vader chrome GMC badging. The Denali Ultimate exterior also has unique exterior fender badges displaying topography of Mount Denali, similar to what’s found on the interior.

2024 Sierra 3500HD trucks also benefit from some improvements made to all of their trucks for this model year. Most notably, redesigned LED projector Headlights are found, offering improved visibility, improved aesthetics, and feature signature lighting with animated sequences. The Denali Ultimate comes standard with power-retractable Assist Steps with LED perimeter lighting and bright accents. These trucks also come with an upgraded Multipro Tailgate that features a standard Kicker Audio System which is an upgrade option on lower trim levels.

2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate Exterior Color Options

The GMC Sierra 3500HD pickup truck, when purchased with the Denali Ultimate trim, is available in 7 different exterior colors. The standard color is Summit White. Every other color requires an upgrade. Onyx Black, Sterling Metallic, Downpour Metallic, Redwood Metallic, and Titanium Rush Metallic all come at an upcharge of $495.00. White Frost TriCoat is a $1,095.00 upgrade.

An updated, six-way MultiPro tailgate featuring a standard Kicker Audio System comes standard with this trim level. It’s the Ultimate Tailgating exterior feature.

Vader Chrome

Unlike other trims, the Denali Ultimate features a unique Vader chrome theme on the exterior. Best displayed by the Signature Denali Grille found on the front end, Vader chrome offers a sharp contrast to the brighter themes previously found on pinnacle tier GMC trucks.

Front LED headlights with a large LED strip provide impressive visibility at night and better aesthetics than standard halogen headlights with reflective housings. These headlights also feature animated sequences.

What’s Missing? What Features does the Denali Ultimate Not Have?

It’s hard to ask for more features than what the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate already has. That being said, there are some noteworthy features present on Ford’s HD trucks and Ram’s HD trucks that could elevate the Denali Ultimate even further. Here are some suggestions for additional features that we see from some of the other manufacturers.

Features We’d Steal From the Ford Superduty

My personal truck, a 2022 Ford Superduty Lariat, features a panoramic, trim-panel moonroof. While this doesn’t do much for the truck’s capabilities, it’s a luxury feature that gives the truck an open, convertible-like feel. It gives the cabin a bigger feel, similar to a cathedral ceiling in a home. It’s also my son’s favorite feature of my truck, giving him a wide-open view of the sky. He’s extremely passionate about airplanes and it’s a great distraction while we’re taking roadtrips that will keep him occupied.

Another feature that GM could take from Ford is the addition of an upgraded powertrain. While the Denali Ultimate does come standard with the 6.6L L5P Duramax V8 Diesel engine, it’s the same engine that is found on the lowly PRO model. 2023 Ford F-350 Superduty Limited models contain an upgraded High-Output 6.7L Powerstroke V8 Diesel engine, offering 25 more horsepower and 150 lb.-ft more torque than the standard 6.7L Powerstroke Diesel engine. It’s just another differentiating factor that further separates the highest trim level from the lower ones.

Features We’d Steal from The Ram HD

Ram Heavy Duty feature an impressive suspension feature that is especially useful for those who tow frequently. The 2023 Ram 3500HD contains an auto-leveling air suspension that automatically levels the truck according to the load connected. It provides incredible ride quality when towing, but even unloaded, it provides a stark contrast to the typically stiff ride experienced on heavy duty trucks. On lighter duty models, like the 2023 Ram 2500HD, they come available with rear coil springs, which may reduce tow capacity a bit, but it does provide a less stiff rear end and improved driving feel when unloaded.

Comfort is obviously a driver factor in people’s decisions to buy luxury trucks. An upgrade like the Auto-Leveling Air Suspension would be fantastic improvement for families pulling campers or trailers that could make these trucks drive even better.

Overall Thoughts on the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate

The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate is in a class of its own. It offers consumers the most unique and luxurious GMC 3500HD date, boasting premium materials both inside and outside the cabin. Unlike previous top-tier Denali trims offering some degree of luxury, the Denali Ultimate offers a refreshing update on pickup truck luxury.

Instead of standard black leather seating, an alpine umber interior paired with Open-pore Paldao wood trim is used. Instead of the standard chrome or polished look of many luxury vehicles, the Denali Ultimate uses a darker Vader Chrome. Unbelievable attention to detail is also portrayed with personal touches like the engravings of topographical maps of Mt. Denali on the interior.

Unlike lower trims, the Denali Ultimate comes standard with the 6.6L L5P Duramax V8 Diesel engine. This gives buyers an engine that’s not only more powerful and responsive, but also a more capable towing machine. The L5P Duramax is partnered with the legendary 10-Speed Allison transmission.

The 2024 Denali Ultimate also benefits from a number of improvements made to all GMC trucks for this model year. A new, 13.4″ center display paired with a 12.3″ digital gauge display gives drivers a more connected and modern truck. The Denali Ultimate also comes standard with a 15″ Head-up display, allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road.

Convinced? If you are shopping for a heavy duty pickup truck in 2023, the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Ultimate should be on your radar.

Either powertrain now comes standard with the 10-Speed Allison transmission. Screen/Display Improvements

Every auto manufacturer is incorporating massive, intuitive center screens into their vehicles. At this point, it’s basically a competition. For the last few years, GM heavy duty trucks have really struggled in this department, offering the smallest and least impressive screen amongst heavy duty truck manufacturers. Both Ford and Ram have had 12″ Displays in their trucks for at least a couple of years now. In 2024, GM finally embraced the big screen and incorporated one of their own into their own HD trucks.

This screen, a 13.4″ diagonal touchscreen, is now the largest center infotainment screen in the vehicle class. It contains modern features like Google Built-in, split-screen capabilities, and bluetooth phone projection via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. This display is paired with an updated 12.3″ Diagonal Digital Gauge Cluster or Driver Information Center, replacing the old analog gauges found on previous models. The new driver information center is highly intuitive and customizable, giving drivers more control and greater insight on their vehicle.

As if these displays aren’t enough, an optional 15″ Head-Up Display can be purchased as an upgrade. This feature projects vehicle information onto the windshield, eliminating the need to look down when driving. This feature is received by selected either the Denali Reserve Package or the Technology package.

Two Different Color Interiors With More Premium Features

The Denali HD interior is available with two distinct color options, Jet Black and Atmosphere/Brownstone. While the Jet Black interior color is available in lower trims, the Atmosphere/Brownstone interior is exclusive to the Denali.

The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali comes standard with front buckets and a large center console, compared to lower trims containing a standard center seat. Throughout the cabin a greater concentration of premium materials and luxurious decorative trim are used compared to lower models.

Other premium features gained by selecting the Denali trim are:

  • A 7-Speaker Bose Sound System with a RichBass Woofer
  • Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
  • Heated Rear Seats
  • 12-Way Front Bucket seats for both the driver and front passenger, offering greater adjustability than lower trims.
  • Power-sliding rear window

Overall Thoughts on the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali

While the Denali isn’t the most luxurious GM trim available any longer, the 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali is still a pickup worth considering if you’re in the market for a new truck. It’s significantly improved over previous models and finally contains more modern features that customers really care about. It’s a big step above SLE or SLT trim levels, and it offers many of the features found on the Denali Ultimate, with more being available as upgrades.

Most of the features that we are excited about have been changes that impacted all GMC HD trucks, not just the Denali. The additions of enlarged and more intuitive displays for the center infotainment center and the digital gauge cluster give an improved driving experience and allow drivers to customize settings and personalize their vehicle. A revised exterior gives the 2024 Denali HD a more aggressive look compared to 2023 models. The interior received a much-needed overhaul which make the trucks resemble more of a luxury vehicle than just a pickup truck.

The 2024 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali is a great option for consumers wanting a premium pickup truck with numerous bells and whistles that make driving easier, safer, and more enjoyable. For those spending lots of time in their vehicles towing a camper or traveling for work, it should definitely be on your radar. That being said, the Denali lacks that “Wow Factor” when compared to the pinnacle trim model, the Denali Ultimate. While it may not make your jaw drop like the Denali Ultimate, the Denali trim level may prove itself to be more durable on the interior. Frequently trucks with the brown leathers like the King Ranch or the Laramie Longhorn can fade, resulting in a less desirable appearance.

Choose the Duramax

If you plan on towing, you should opt-in for the 6.6L L5P Duramax Diesel engine. The standard 6.6L V8 gasoline engine is okay for commutes or light duty towing, but the diesel will give you significantly better towing power, greater longevity, and even fuel economy when pulling a trailer. Once outfitted with the 6.6L L5P Duramax engine, the Denali model jumps from an MSRP of roughly $76,295.00 starting price, to $85,785 on SRW models. On DRW models, the base price is $78,695 with an upgraded model containing the L5P Duramax engine starts at $88,185.

2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Exterior Color Options

The Denali 2500 HD is available in eight different colors. The standard color is Summit White, with every other color resulting in a price increase. The upgraded colors are Onyx Black, Sterling Metallic, Downpour Metallic, Redwood Metallic, Titanium Rush Metallic, Volcanic Red Tintcoat, and White Frost Tricoat.

2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD Denali Interior

A key differentiator between Denali models and lower trims has always been the Denali’s interior. It contains a wider array of interior features and a greater concentration of premium materials than lesser trims. While the Denali Ultimate now trumps the Denali in terms of luxury, the Denali HD still has plenty to offer customers looking for a luxury pickup truck. Here is what makes the Denali Interior so special.

Greater Connectivity and More Screen Surface Area

A new race to the top is taking place amongst automobile manufacturers, who can give consumers the most screen surface. Prior to 2023, GM’s trucks have struggled in this department, offering the smallest display compared to other manufacturers like Ford or Ram. Now, GMC and Chevy owners receive the much needed interior update and modernization consumers have been calling for.

The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD contain the 13.4″ Diagonal Touchscreen display as a standard feature. This display features Google Built-in, split-screen capabilities, and also contains bluetooth phone projection through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. A 12.3″ Diagonal Digital Gauge Cluster and Driver Information Center is paired with the 13.4″ Touchscreen and it replaces the traditional analog gauges found on previous models. GM’s 12.3″ Driver Information Center is high customizable, allowing drivers to personalize their digital gauge cluster and control vehicle information like warning messages.

A 15″ Head-Up Display isn’t standard on the Denali trim, but it’s available as an upgrade. This feature projects vehicle information onto the windshield. This allows you to keep your attention on the road while still giving you vital vehicle information in your line of sight. If you’re interested in having the Head-Up display, you need to select either the Denali Reserve Package or the Technology package.

Two Different Color Interiors With More Premium Features

The 2024 GMC Denali HD interior comes available in two different color options, Jet Black and Atmosphere/Brownstone. Jet Black is an option that is available on the SLE and SLT models. The Atmosphere/Brownstone interior option, however, is unique to the Denali HD.

All Denali HD models, regardless of interior choice, come standard with bucket seats and a center console. This is contrary to the center seat that comes standard with SLE or SLT Trims. All throughout the interior Denali models also feature more decorative trim and premium features than lower trims.

Some examples of the standard premium interior characteristics of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD Denali are:

  • A 7-Speaker Bose Sound System with a RichBass Woofer
  • Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
  • Heated Rear Seats
  • 12-Way Front Bucket seats for both the driver and front passenger, offering greater adjustability than lower trims.
  • Power-sliding rear window

Overall Thoughts on the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali

While the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali isn’t the top trim available in GMC trucks, it still offers buyers a modern pickup with a wide array of premium features. It is a significant step above the SLE or SLT trim levels, but it no longer has the making of a pinnacle trim level like earlier model years. It more closely resembles rivals lower trim levels, more comparative to Ford’s Lariat trim or Ram’s Laramie trim.

Compared to last year’s model, the 2024 Denali HD contains a number of much-needed upgrades that were implemented across all GMC HD truck trims. These upgrades make GM pickup trucks more competitive. GMC trucks gained a larger center infotainment center and a more intuitive digital gauge display that is highly customizable. Exterior improvements also give the 2024 Denali a more aggressive and aesthetic appearance than 2023 models.

If you plan on towing, it may be wiser to just opt-in for the 2024 GMC’s Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate instead, as it comes standard with more features and the coveted 6.6L L5P Duramax engine. 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate Towing Specs

Improvements made to both the powertrain and the vehicle itself help increase some of the 2024 GMC HD trucks’ tow capacities compared to last years models. For example, the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Crew Cab model now has a max conventional tow capacity of 20,000 lbs, an improvement of 1,500 lbs compared to last years model. Max gooseneck/fifth-wheel tow capacity also improved for Crew Cab 2500HD models to 21,900 lbs. Of course, these numbers are the max available numbers when the vehicle is chosen with the Max Tow Package, 2WD, and likely a more basic trim package.

The Denali Ultimate trim package includes a standard crew cab configuration, 4WD drivetrain, and the 6.6L L5P Duramax Diesel engine. This means on a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate, you will have at best a max conventional tow capacity of 20,000 lbs, a max gooseneck/fifth-wheel tow capacity of 21,600 lbs, and a maximum payload of 3,576 lbs.

2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Interior

When viewing the Interior of the Denali Ultimate trim, one thought comes to mind, “attention to detail”. It’s immediately apparent that GM’s design team dedicated significant effort and time to develop an incredible final product.

2024 GMC SIERRA 2500HD DENALI ULTIMATE INTERIOR

More Luxurious Cabin Designed with Premium Materials

Compared to the previous pinnacle luxury model, the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali, or even this year’s 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali, the Denali Ultimate brings GMC trucks to an entirely new level of luxury and grandness. Unique to the Denali Ultimate, it contains an exclusive Alpine Umber interior. Full-grain leather, a natural leather that’s often considered the highest quality leather, is used throughout the cabin. It’s used in the seats, door panels, and the center console. Open-pore Paldao wood is found on much of the interior trim, some of which is engraved with topographical map patterns of Mt. Denali’s Summit.

The full-grain front and rear seats, along with the center console lid, are adorned with the prestigious Denali Ultimate badge. Front passengers benefit from new 16-way power-adjustable and massaging front seats. The truck’s door panels also feature full-grain leather paired with etched stainless-steel speakers. A premium Microsuede is found on the headliner, visors, and A- and B- pillar trim. Even the pillar trim handles are wrapped with leader.

A Display That Finally Competes

A major frustration point for consumers with GM’s heavy duty trucks over the past few years has been their disappointing center display and gauge display when compared to competitors’ trucks. They offered a significantly smaller screen size, only 8″ diagonally, and a very basic design. When compared to the Ram HD or Ford Superduty 12” Center Displays with highly intuitive gauge clusters, to say GM was lacking would be an understatement.

That all changes for GM’s 2024 Heavy Duty trucks. The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate trucks, along with other trims, will now feature a 13.4” infotainment touchscreen, breaking the tie between Ford and Ram and effectively taking the crown for largest center display. It also features the coveted “split-screen” capability, allowing you to control two separate things at the same time.

In addition to a massive center display screen, a 12.3” digital instrument cluster, offering greater insight into vehicle operation is also added. A multi-color 15” head-up display is also standard on Denali Ultimate models and allows you to keep your eyes upwards and on the road.

GMC Trucks received a much needed interior overhaul. New 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD trucks have an available 13.4″ center display, 12.3″ digital instrument cluster, and a 15″ head-up display.

What’s Missing? What Features does the GMC Sierra 2500HD Not Have?

With all of the features the new 2024 GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate contains, it’s hard to ask for more. That being said, there is always room for improvement. Here are a couple of features we would love to see be added in future models.

Features We’d Take From the Ford Superduty

One of my favorite features on my personal truck, a 2022 Ford Superduty Lariat, is the panoramic, twin-panel moonroof. When you have kids, especially one who’s fascinated with airplanes, its a great occupier and distraction. It also gives your truck an open, almost convertible feel and makes the space feel bigger inside the cabin. It’s the truck equivalent of an open floor-plan in a new home.

Another characteristic I’d take from Ford is an upgraded powertrain offering. While the Denali Ultimate comes with a standard L5P Duramax Diesel engine, it’s still the same Diesel engine that you can get in the base Pro trim. In contrast, the new 2023 Ford Superduty Limited features an upgraded High-Output 6.7L Powerstroke V8 Diesel Engine that offers 25 more horsepower and 150 lb-ft more torque than the base 6.7L Powerstroke V8 Diesel engine. It’s a further differentiator between trim levels. When you’re paying for the top trim, you expect it to be substantially different than the models below it, especially when it boasts a name like the “Denali Ultimate”.

Features We’d Take from The Ram HD

The last feature we’d like to see added is an air suspension. The 2023 RAM HD offers an impressive auto-leveling air suspension that automatically levels the truck according to the load connected. This provides an outstanding feel and level of comfort when towing. It doesn’t just make the ride more comfortable when towing however. Heavy Duty trucks are notoriously stiff, especially when you get heavy duty suspensions on trucks like the 3500HD models with heavy duty rear leaf springs. The air suspension also provides an improved feel when driving unloaded.

For truck owners that don’t require a heavy duty towing machine, Ram HD trucks also offer a coil spring rear suspension. While it doesn’t give you the same towing capacity, it makes for a less stiff rear end and a more comfortable ride.

When you’re paying for the top trim, comfort is obviously a serious motivator and area of importance for you. You’re likely going to be spending a lot of time in your truck. For that reason, we feel like an upgraded suspension such as an air suspension would be a serious improvement and sought-after feature that could make the Denali Ultimate even better.

Overall Thoughts on the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate

Without a doubt, the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate is by far the most impressive GM heavy-duty truck to date. It’s a truck that makes a statement and shares more in common with a luxury BMW or Mercedes car than most other heavy-duty trucks.

GMC trucks in the Denali Ultimate trim boast an impressive array of features that give the driver more connectivity and confidence to handle any driving situation. They have an ultra-luxurious interior made up of premium materials and astounding finishing touches that really display the level of thought and attention to detail that was put into these trucks. A matching impressive and imposing exterior also offers that “wow” factor every truck owner looks for. It does it all stock too! I can’t even imagine how good these trucks will look after a couple of aftermarket upgrades like a suspension lift or larger tires are added.

Overall, the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate overshadows the Denali HD by a significant margin. If you’re in the market for a GM truck, the Denali Ultimate should definitely be on your radar.

How to Buy the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate

Ford Superduty 7.3L V8 “Godzilla” Gas Engine Specs & Information

Decades after the production of the 7.3L Powerstroke V8 Diesel engine, one of the most sought-out Diesel engines ever produced, Ford brought back a 7.3 Liter Displacement Engine. It’s not a diesel, but it’s an impressive V8 engine that cranks out a whopping 430 horsepower and 475 ft.-lb of torque. Ford’s 7.3L V8 “Godzilla” Gasoline engine offers impressive specs and is available in pretty much the entire Heavy-Duty Ford Line-up, from the Ford F-250 to the F-750 and is also on the E-Series Work Vans. It’s more capable than the standard 6.2L V8 Engine that is the standard powertrain on Superduty pickup trucks. It’s not just more capable, however, it also features a number of unique design elements that make it more robust and dependable.

In this post, our guide to the Ford 7.3L V8 Godzilla Gas Engine, we’re going to cover this engine’s specs, design information, and performance data. We’ll also mention the differences between this engine and the 6.2L V8 engine that is also available in both Superduty trucks and the E-Series Vans.

Ford 7.3L V8 “Godzilla” Engine Key Design Elements

Ford’s 7.3L V8 Gas Engine checks all the boxes when it comes to a commercial vehicle powertrain. It’s durable, dependable, powerful, and easy to maintain. Despite being the largest displacement gas powertrain available in the Ford’s Line-up, it also is relatively small, allowing it to be placed in even the E-series vans. It’s also extremely versatile. E-Series customers are able to get a gaseous fuel prep package that comes with upgraded valvetrain components to support the higher operating temperatures and reduced lubricity of fuels such as CNG or Propane. Flex fuel options are also available to customers seeking a more cost-efficient fuel type.

Here is some insight into what makes the Ford 7.3L “Godzilla” V8 Engine so capable, versatile, and durable.

7.3L Ford Superduty V8 Godzilla Engine Fact Sheet

7.3L V8 Engine Composition/Construction

Ford’s 7.3L V8 Godzilla Engine is a pushrod style V8 engine that utilizes a cast-iron block with a cam-in-block and OHV (overhead Valve) architecture. The In-Block Cam design helps reduce both engine height and width. Four bolt and cross bolted main bearings provides optimal strength and stiffness for improved longevity and durability. A forged steel crankshaft is also used, furthering strength and durability.

For even greater durability, the 7.3L V8 Gasoline Engine contains robust pistons and ring packs containing anti-wear coatings. Piston cooling jets help create even greater longevity and maintain combustion efficiency. A variable displacement oil pump found in the pan increases oil flow when required and ensures engine lubrication in all conditions. It even accounts for changes due to engine wear, helping to provide consistent performance as the engine gets older and more worn.

New heads with port fuel injection provide maintenance simplicity, yet high air flow. Variable-Valve timing optimizes the intake and exhaust for maximum performance.

Ford 7.3L V8 Godzilla Gasoline Engine Performance

Ford’s 7.3L V8 Engine is extremely versatile, making it a powertrain that is available in a wide range of heavy-duty applications. It’s found predominantly in Ford’s Superduty pickup trucks from the F-250 to the F-600, but it’s also available in the E-Series in two different variants. In Ford F-250-F-600 trucks, it’s partnered with the 10-speed Torqshift Automatic Transmission. Other commercial models use the heavy-duty 6-speed Torqshift transmission.

The original iteration of the 7.3L Godzilla V8 engine cranks out 430 Horsepower and 475 lb.-ft of torque when found in the Ford F-250 or Ford F-350. In the 2023 model year, power numbers were slightly increased, resulting in these and newer trucks having 430 horsepower and 485 lb.-ft of torque. These numbers are much higher than the 6.2L V8 Gasoline Engine which was the standard engine on Ford Superduty trucks until the 2023 model year. In 2023, the 6.2L V8 engine was replaced with a new 6.8L V8 Gasoline Engine which made the margin tighter, but doesn’t edge out the 7.3L V8 in horsepower or torque. Despite holding the crown in the gasoline engine category, the 7.3L V8 Engine has less than half the torque of the 6.7L Powerstroke V8 Diesel engine, the recommended powertrain choice for frequent towing.

Despite having lower performance figures than the Powerstroke, Ford’s 7.3L V8 Godzilla Gasoline-powered engine should strongly be considered in commercial and fleet applications where you’re not towing as heavy of loads or as frequently. 7.3L V8 Engine Maintenance is simpler and less expensive than the 6.7L Powerstroke and they still provide plenty of power and capability to get the job done.

Ford 7.3L V8 Godzilla Gas Crate Engines

Commercial Customers aren’t the only one who can benefit from the 7.3L V8 Gas Engine. Ford made the 7.3L Godzilla Engine available as a crate engine. Many believe this to be a sign that this engine is significantly detuned from the factory and capable of sustaining much higher performance figures. If you’re looking for a complete engine to drop-in to your custom build, you should definitely consider the Ford 7.3L Godzilla Gas Engine due to its impressive performance specs and durability.

Ford Superduty 7.3L V8 Godzilla Engine Performance Upgrades

You don’t have to purchase a crate engine or build a custom track vehicle to benefit from the ease at which you can modify the 7.3L V8 Engine. Many truck owners seek improved performance from their daily driving vehicles or tow rigs and these trucks with these engines can be easily upgraded. Check out our Ford Superduty 7.3L V8 Godzilla Performance Upgrades Post for some ideas on how to improve the horsepower and torque on your 7.3L-Equipped Ford Superduty.

Ford 7.3L V8 Gas Engine Variations

Ford’s 7.3L V8 Gasoline Engine features multiple configurations that are available through-out Ford’s different vehicles. The higher-output 7.3L V8 engine is available in exclusively Ford F-250 and F-350 Superduty pickup trucks. Cab & Chassis, E-Series Vans and Fleet/Commercial Variations like the F-750 utilize a de-tuned engine that provides lesser output with the goal of longer longevity. 2022 and newer Ford E-series Vans actually offer two different 7.3L V8 options, a premium version offering higher performance specs, and an economy-centric model, offering greater fuel economy and lower performance figures.

Ford E-Series 7.3L V8 Engine Information

The Ford E-series is a staple amongst service companies and other types of contractors and Ford knows that these vehicles are used differently. They created two different engine calibrations with different power levels to help commercial customers. The premium E-Series 7.3L V8 engine has 350 horsepower and 468 lb.-ft of torque. The Economy 7.3L V8 engine has 300 horsepower and 425 lb.-ft of torque.

Both of these engine calibrations have available flex fuel capabilities, meaning they can run on gasoline or blends of up to 85 percent ethanol (E85). Ford even offers a gaseous fuel prep package for these trucks, allowing them to run on CNG or Propane. The gaseous prep package features upgraded valvetrain components that allow the 7.3L engine to endure higher operating temperatures and the lesser lubricity of these types of fuel.

2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R Performance

The newest Ford F-150 Raptor R is truly the king of all terrains. It makes conquering difficult terrains as easy as it can be, while simultaneously offering impressive performance and control during regular street driving. This is largely due to its new 5.2L V8 Supercharged Engine, an upgraded suspension, and a wide variety of other key performance upgrades that make tackling all terrains easier than ever. Read on for more details on 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R Performance.

5.2L Supercharged V8 Engine

Described as the Heart of the new 2023 Ford Raptor R, the 5.2 Liter V8 Supercharged Engine provides drivers with a whopping 700 Horsepower and 640 lb.-ft of torque. While that doesn’t quite dethrone the Ram 1500 TRX in raw power numbers, this engine along with its other impressive performance enhancements provide off-road performance that is second to none. This engine also significantly outperforms the previous generation of the Ford F-150 Raptor that contained the High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost V6 Turbocharged Engine.

Upgraded Suspension & Off-Road Capabilities

Described as the Soul of the Ford F-150 Raptor R, the new long-travel suspension utilizing FOX Live Valve Shocks provides heightened off-road capabilities and makes navigating difficult terrain at high speeds easier than ever before. This new Five-Link rear suspension uses elongated trailing arms that maintain improved axle positioning on difficult terrain. A Panhard Rod and 24″ Coil Springs are utilized which provide outstanding stabilization at high-speeds when off-roading.

State-of-the-art FOX Live Valve Shocks independently monitor terrain hundreds of times a second, and automatically adjust accordingly. This provides next-level ride quality and roll-control. This occurs thanks to a number of suspension height sensors and other sensors that are found on these shock systems. These shocks, in addition to the Ford Raptor R’s impressive ground clearance, 13″ in the front and 14.1″ in the back make conquering sand and rocks relatively easy. Standard 37″ tires also help improve ground clearance and make tackling difficult terrain as easy as possible.

Other Key Performance Features

Performance & Durability Improvements

The 5.2L Supercharged V8 engine is very similar to the engine used on Ford Mustang GT500 cars. In order to be as efficient off-road as it is on the streets, Ford modified the Supercharger specifically for the Ford Raptor R. By Recalibrating the supercharger and installing a new pulley, off-road performance is optimized and torque delivery is increased in both the low-end and mid-range.

Supporting modifications to sustain longevity and all this power were also added on the Ford Raptor R. These trucks contain cast stainless steel exhaust manifolds, a unique oil cooler and filter, a deeper oil pan, and a wider air intake inlet paired with a higher flow, higher-efficiency air filter.

Ford Raptor R Specific 10-Speed Automatic Transmission

2023 Ford Raptor R trucks will contain a uniquely calibrated 10-speed Automatic Transmission. These transmissions contain a new torque converter that is specifically tuned for these trucks. The torque converter utilizes a heavy-duty turbine damper and four-pinion rear output assembly which allows the truck to better transfer torque and gives the driver a smoother driving experience in all conditions.

Driveline Enhancements

Driveline improvements made to these trucks include a redesigned front axle. It features a more durable, higher-strength carrier casting and an aluminum-ribbed cover. A new, large diameter aluminum driveshaft is also used.

Sound Control & Driver Customization

Ford Engineers made everyone happy with a very unique dual exhaust system that features a true pass-through muffler and active valve system. The exhaust can be adjusted for sound with four unique modes. These four modes include Normal, Sport, Quiet, and Baja Mode, all of which you can adjust in the MyMode feature. MyMode also allows drivers to customize other driver settings like drive, steering, and suspension modes. You can even save one mode and quickly access it by pressing the “R” button on the steering wheel.

2023 Ford Raptor R Exterior Styling & Design

2023 Ford Raptor R Exterior

The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R shares some similarities to the standard Ford F-150 Raptor, but Ford’s Design team tried to make it very easy to identify the Ford Raptor R against standard Raptor Models. They accomplished this by giving Exterior and the Interior unique features exclusive to the Ford Raptor R. Not only do these features set the truck apart aesthetically, but many of these features are actually functional as well that help boost the Raptor R’s Performance. Here are the Exterior and Interior characteristics that make it easy to distinguish Ford F-150 Raptor R trucks.

Black And Orange, and Whatever Primary Color You Choose

The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R shares two common styling colors, regardless of what main color you choose. The color black is used all over the exterior and interior of the truck. Ford Raptor R trucks are adorned with all-black front and rear bumpers, fender flares, and wheels. Ford Performance Code Orange accents are also used in many places on the truck. Code Orange Raptor R badges are found on the grille, power dome and tailgate. A special graphics package available on the rear fenders also contains the Code Orange letter “R”. Code Orange tow hooks are found on the front bumper.

More Aggressive Look & Styling

The Ford Raptor R contains a host of other exterior features that make it look more aggressive than standard models. Massive 37″ Tires are standard. A larger power dome on the hood sits roughly 1″ taller than on standard Raptor models. A Unique Raptor R Front Grille and bumpers also convey a more rugged exterior.

You Can Hear the Difference

The Ford F-150 Raptor R sounds different. Thanks to the Driver-Controlled Exhaust system found on the Raptor R, drivers can set themselves apart with a louder, more aggressive exhaust tone, or they can conceal all that power with a more moderate exhaust mode.

Ford F-150 Raptor R Interior

Careful attention to detail and special attention was also given to the 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R’s Interior. Standard Recaro Seats using a combination of black leather and Alcantara Suede give the Raptor R a luxurious, yet sporty interior feel. Carbon fiber is placed throughout the cabin on doors, the media bin door and upper portions of the instrument panel. This carbon fiber contains a specific tai-axial weave pattern that conveys the Raptor R’s incredible performance, durability, and toughness.

Off-Road Technology

Similar to the Standard Ford Raptor, Raptor R models contain a number of different smart technologies that make off-roading easier than ever. Three highlights of the newest Raptor’s off-road prowess are Trail Turn Assist, Ford Trail Control, and Trail 1-Pedal Drive.

Trail Turn Assist makes conquering tight areas a little bit easier. It gives drivers the ability to shrink turning radius on tight turns to traverse areas not previously possible. Ford Trail Control is a form of cruise control for off-roading. It maintains a speed so the driver can focus on steering and navigating difficult areas while the truck controls both throttle and braking. Trail 1-Pedal Drive makes it easier for drivers to control both throttle and braking using only one pedal.

Other Technology

The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R also comes with a new standard 12″ Touch Screen that is now found on many Ford F-150s and also the Ford Superduty. It comes with Sync 4 Technology, Bluetooth Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth Android Auto. Ford Power-Up over-the-air software updates allow updates to made throughout the vehicle wirelessly, allowing you to skip the dealership for some Updates. A host of other features are also found the Ford Raptor R. They deliver long-term driver satisfaction and make driving easier, safer, and more fun than ever before. You can read about these features in our 2023 Ford Raptor R Buyer’s Guide.

Ford F-150 5.0L V8 Maintenance Guide

Since it joined the Ford F-150 powertrain lineup in 2011, the 5.0L V8 “Coyote” engine has been a popular choice amongst potential F-150 buyers. Despite its natural aspiration, it is remarkably fuel efficient, especially in its latest iterations. When paired with the 2022 Ford F-150, an impressive fuel economy of 24 miles per gallon on the highway is achieved. The 5.0L V8 Engine’s natural aspiration also provides another advantage compared to engines like the 2.7L EcoBoost or the 3.5L EcoBoost turbocharged engines, which is simplicity. The lack of a turbocharger system and other sophisticated components make these engines likely cheaper to maintain in the long term and help prevent certain expensive repairs from ever happening. Furthermore, maintenance is also simpler and if you observe a strict Ford F-150 5.0L V8 Maintenance routine, you can almost ensure a long life out of your truck.

In this post, we’re going to concrete on giving you all the information you need to properly maintain a Ford F-150 with the 5.0L V8 Engine. We’ll cover Ford F-150 5.0L V8 Maintenance & Service Schedules, provide Fluid Capacity numbers for the various fluids required, and even list the most common 5.0L V8 Maintenance Parts, Fluids, and the engine oil that you will need. Let’s Dive in.

How to Maintain a Ford F-150 with the 5.0L V8 “Coyote” Engine

Servicing a Ford F-150 with the 5.0L V8 Engine is something that can be at home by yourself, or you can take it somewhere else to have it serviced. You can take your F-150 to either a Ford Dealer or another Mechanic shop where they will do everything for you. If you choose this method, you can expect to spend a couple hundred dollars every time you take your vehicle in for service. We also recommend you pay attention and request only Motorcraft or Ford parts be used in your truck. Some shops will use cheap alternatives and different oils than what is recommended by Ford which can shorten the life of your vehicle.

If you have basic mechanical skills and tools, you should be able to complete a majority of the maintenance on your Ford F-150 by yourself. By doing so, you can save yourself hundreds or even thousands of dollars throughout the lifetime of your truck and you can also make sure your vehicle is using the right fluids, filters, and engine oil that will help provide the greatest longevity.

To service your Ford F-150 on your own, you just need to be aware of your vehicles service intervals, the vehicle’s fluid capacities, and what parts, fluids, and oil you’re going to need. We cover each of these, but we also recommend you procure an owner’s manual for your truck if you don’t already have one. All this information is also found in there.

Ford F-150 5.0L V8 Maintenance Intervals

The first step in understanding how to complete proper Ford F-150 5.0L V8 maintenance is knowing how frequently you need to service your truck. Different tasks need to be completed at different mileage intervals so you need to know where your truck is at in terms of mileage and adopt the following schedule. If you just purchased your truck, ask the dealer you bought it from if it was serviced and what exactly was done.

There are two separate sets of Ford F-150 5.0L V8 Maintenance Intervals that you can follow. Be brutally honest with yourself about how you use your vehicle. Most drivers should use the normal operating conditions set of maintenance intervals. If you put more than the average amount of stress on your truck however, you should be using the severe maintenance intervals.

Normal Operating Conditions

This set of operating conditions is for the average driver that mostly uses their truck for commuting. Some light towing or infrequent heavy towing is fine.

Multi-Point Inspection

In addition to completing the tasks listed in the intervals above, we also recommend taking the time to complete a multi-point inspection when you are performing any kind of service on your truck. While you probably can’t do 100% of the tasks listed below, you can definitely do most of them.

  • Inspect Accessory Drive Belts.
  • Test Battery Performance and inspect the batteries and terminals. Clean if needed.
  • Inspect the Engine Air Filter. Change it if needed.
  • Check the Exhaust System for leaks and obstructions.
  • Visually Inspect under the vehicle and in the engine bay for fluid/oil leaks.

Ford F-150 5.0L V8 Fluid Capacity

Now that you know how often maintenance needs to be completed and specifically what tasks need to be done, the next step in 5.0L V8 Maintenance is knowing how much of each fluid this truck requires. This is important because without knowing, you’d be guessing at how much fluid or oil you need which could cause you to purchase either too little or too much. The following chart breaks down how much of each fluid these trucks require. Make sure you pay special attention when identifying the fluid needed for your truck because the 5.0L V8 engine has different fluid capacities for different model years.
